Trying Times:

From time to time we all find ourselves stuck in a rut. Confidence dips, we become unsure of our capabilities and we tend to chronically underestimate what we are capable of achieving. Sound familiar? Well, you’re certainly not alone! This is exactly where young Mark Connolly found himself earlier this year. That was before a critical turning point – Attending a local job and career expo in Hervey Bay. It was here he met SDS Training and uncovered the world of opportunities available to revitalize his career.

Courage To Follow Passion:

Working as a mechanic, Mark was left uninspired as his real passion was to operate machinery (the bigger, the better!). After discovering that our new AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations program was set to include *ACDC licence, White Card, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Chainsaw, Polesaw, First Aid/CPR training AND the opportunity to obtain a truck licence or machinery licence, Mark and his carer, Des, knew that this was the perfect time for Mark to take a leap of faith and enrol in the program.

A hands on learner, Mark thrived in the practical activities that simulated real-life work scenarios. Benefiting from the relationship SDS Training has fostered with the Maryborough Golf Club, Mark was at his best with his hands dirty. Not to mention he’s a car racing enthusiast, so he absolutely blitzed rather difficult practical components to his machinery training!

A Glimpse Into The Future:

And that’s not even the best part! Our favourite part of Mark’s time with us? The personal growth we were privileged to witness over the duration of the program. Tentative and unsure, Mark often kept to himself but that didn’t last long as he developed relationships with his trainers, Andre and Jason. He also fostered lasting friendships with many of the other students in his rural operations program – he even went four wheel driving with a mate he’d met through the program (can we tag along next time please Mark?!).

Energized and ready to conquer the world, Mark now has his sights set on obtaining his heavy vehicle drivers licence as well as his forklift and front end loader tickets to further advance his skill set and future career prospects. We have absolutely no doubt Mark will be successful in whichever career he pursues and we are looking forward to having him back through our gates to help him gain those desired licences/tickets!

Well done Mark! We’re SO proud of you and your accomplishments with us so far – The sky is the limit!
