What is CSQ funding?

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding provides subsidies towards eligible training for Queensland’s building and construction industry.

Depending on the program, CSQ funding can support training ranging from short courses and licences through to higher-level qualifications, skills assessment and gap training, and major-project workforce development.

The amount of funding and any participant contribution depends on the program, course and eligibility requirements.

Who can access CSQ-funded training?

Eligibility depends on the CSQ program and training being undertaken.

For individual training programs, you may be eligible if you are currently or recently employed in Queensland’s building and construction industry.

This can include:

Employees
Self-employed workers
Recently employed workers (last 6 months)
Experienced workers seeking formal recognition of their skills

Additional eligibility requirements apply.

How to Get Started

The application process depends on the CSQ program and your circumstances.

Applying as an individual

For selected individual programs, you can start by completing our 60-Second Eligibility Check.

If you meet the initial criteria, you’ll be provided with the relevant next steps, which may include completing a Digital Application and providing supporting evidence.

If you don’t appear to meet the initial criteria, you can book a quick phone chat with our team or respond directly to your results. We’ll help clarify your circumstances and determine whether there is another appropriate pathway.

Depending on your circumstances, a member of our team may also contact you directly if we need further information or think a conversation would be helpful.

TAKE THE 60-SECOND CHECK

Organising training for your organisation?

If you’re organising training on behalf of your organisation — for example, as a Training Coordinator, HR Manager, Project Manager or other workforce representative — you don’t need to complete the 60-Second Eligibility Check on behalf of your team.

Reach out directly to our team. We can talk through your workforce training requirements and provide you with the relevant next steps based on the CSQ program and training you’re looking at.

This may include training for individual employees, multiple workers, project teams or broader workforce development requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my CSQ eligibility to be assessed?

We aim to assess your initial eligibility within 24–48 hours of receiving the required information. Assessment times can vary depending on the volume of applications and enquiries we’re receiving.

If we need additional information or supporting evidence from you, this may extend the assessment timeframe.

What happens after I complete the 60-Second Eligibility Check?

The 60-Second Eligibility Check provides an initial indication of whether you may meet the key eligibility criteria for selected CSQ-funded programs.

If you meet the initial criteria, we’ll provide you with the relevant next steps, which may include completing a Digital Application and providing supporting evidence.

If you don’t appear to meet the initial criteria, that doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t help. You can book a quick phone chat with our team or respond directly to your results, and we’ll help clarify your circumstances.

Depending on the information you provide, a member of our team may also contact you directly if we think further information or discussion is needed.

The eligibility check does not guarantee final eligibility or funding.

Does completing the 60-Second Eligibility Check guarantee my funding?

No. The 60-Second Eligibility Check is an initial screening tool.

Your final eligibility is subject to SDS Training assessing your application, supporting evidence and circumstances against the requirements of the relevant CSQ program.

What evidence do I need to provide for CSQ funding?

The evidence required depends on the CSQ program and your circumstances.

You may be asked to provide information or evidence relating to your employment, industry involvement, Queensland residency, identity and other program eligibility requirements.

We’ll let you know what is required as part of the application and assessment process.

How do I apply for CSQ-funded training?

The application process depends on the CSQ program.

For selected individual programs, you can start by completing the 60-Second Eligibility Check. If you meet the initial criteria, you’ll be directed to the next stage of the application process.

How much does CSQ-funded training cost?

CSQ provides a subsidy towards eligible training, but participant co-contributions vary depending on the program and course.

For the current SDS Training programs:

Short Course Program: co-contribution fees vary by course and are listed in the Subsidised Training List.
Higher Qualifications: eligible qualifications currently have a $500 participant co-contribution.
Skills Assessment & Gap Training: contribution requirements depend on the relevant training pathway.
Major Projects: training arrangements are developed around the eligible project and workforce requirements.

How long does CSQ-funded training take?

Training duration depends on the course, qualification, delivery method and individual circumstances.

Short courses may be completed over a single day or several days, while Certificate IV and Diploma programs generally take considerably longer to complete.

Your specific course or qualification page will provide the relevant training duration where available.

Can I apply for more than one CSQ course?

This depends on the relevant CSQ program, eligibility requirements, available funding and your training needs.

If you’re considering multiple courses, contact SDS Training so we can help you understand what options may be available.

Can my employer apply for CSQ-funded training for me?

Some CSQ programs support individual participants, while others are designed around businesses, workforces and major projects.

If you’re an employee, your employer can still be involved in the training process where appropriate.

For workforce or project-based training, Major Projects may provide a separate pathway.

What if I am self-employed?

Self-employed workers may be eligible for selected CSQ-funded training, subject to the eligibility requirements of the relevant program.

You’ll be asked to provide information or evidence to support your eligibility.

What if I have recently left the construction industry?

You may still be eligible for selected CSQ-funded programs if you have been employed in the building and construction industry within the relevant eligibility period.

Eligibility requirements vary by program, so complete the eligibility check and provide accurate information about your employment history.

Can I do CSQ training online?

Some CSQ-funded qualifications and training may be available online or through blended delivery, while other courses require face-to-face practical training.

Delivery options depend on the specific course and CSQ program.

How will I know if my application has been approved?

SDS Training will contact you once your application and supporting evidence have been assessed.

Completing the eligibility check or submitting an application does not automatically confirm your eligibility or enrolment.

We’ll provide you with the next steps once your assessment has been completed.
