Course Overview:
This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a vehicle loading crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or more, mounted on a vehicle for the principle purpose of loading and unloading such a vehicle, including the application of load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load, for licensing purposes.
This unit is based upon the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.
Formal Training:
- A log-book to document practical hours completed (this may be completed on-site at SDS Training or at a workplace under suitable supervision).
- Completion of a ‘challenge test’.
- Test paper.
Assessment Process:
- Both the student and their trainer must confirm that the student is ready for assessment.
- WH&SQ is notified of assessment (min. 3 business days to process).
- Assessment is then conducted by one our accredited WH&SQ assessors.
*You will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment and the ability to lodge your nationally recognised high-risk work licence.
Course Topics:
- Planning the work.
- Conducting routine checks.
- Setting up the crane.
- Transferring the load(s).
- Shutting down and securing the crane.

Course Specifics:
Entry Requirements:
A person undertaking this unit must hold:
- a current National HRWL to perform dogging or a current certification for a specific VET course for HRWL to perform dogging that has been issued by, or on behalf of a WHS Regulator.
Pre-requisites (Assessment Only):
- Produce evidence of any additional industry experience.
- You have completed your formal training.
- You have completed a log book or challenge test.
- You must produce 3 Forms of ID in order to sit your assessment.
- You must have a Q Gov Account set-up (this can be created at SDS Training).
Clothing / Footwear:
- Please ensure you wear enclosed footwear and appropriate clothing for conducting high-risk work.
Course Provisions:
- Learner guides.
- Assessment material (both theory & practical).
- Morning tea with refreshments.
- Hi-Vis vest (if required).
Course Outcomes:
On successful completion of the course you will receive a Workplace Health & Safety License (after your application has been processed by WH&SQ) and a Statement of Attainment that is a nationally recognised competency for this machine.
